Warp

All ships with a powered cockpit are capable of warp speed.

Power Consumption

To start warping or move up a warp level a one time charge of

1.5x the mass of the ship in power

is required, and will be displayed as a progress bar in the cockpit GUI.

To engage warp, the cockpit has to be powered. The power consumption is calculated per tick:

ship mass / 45 = power per tick

Calculating the power per tick of a ship whose total mass "including cargo" is 10,000, would be 10,000 mass / 45 = 222.22 energy per tick.

Trivia

Before patch 0.1.49 initiating warp or gearing up warp was 10k power and warp consumption was WarpLevel * (50 + shipMass / 1000).

Warp was added with patch 0.1.26 (warp 1) and updated with patch 0.1.27 (max. warp 9 ).

Currently a ship doesn't need any engines to warp. Only a properly powered cockpit is needed to be able to warp.
