Overview

Adding these items to your ship's exterior will increase the sensor strength of your ship. Sensors are useful for locating various ore types from your ships cockpit. Higher sensor strength provides greater detection distance and resolution of the scanner results. Sensors stack for increased sensor strength.

Usage

To make best use of your sensors, use a Holotable map to look up the solar system information; you can see what resource types may be located in the current system. Make note of these resource types.

To use your ship sensors, sit in your cockpit and press the lower left button of the HUD that looks like ((((-)))) which will activate your sensor display. Current ship sensor strength is listed at the top of the display. You will note all resource types are listed across the bottom, and many along the side, with Up/Down arrow buttons you can press. Clicking a resource type along either side will Show/Hide that one resource type. Click the up and down arrows and through each resource until only the current system resource types are listed left to right along the bottom. You have now customized your ship sensor display for the current solar system; this will assist you considerably in locating resources from the increased resolution of the display.

Now point the bow of your ship at various asteroid fields appearing in your HUD; higher sensor strength will allow detection at greater distances.

An unconfirmed rule of thumb is 1 sensor strength = 10 meters of accurate detection, thus 1000 sensor strength will provide a reasonably accurate detection result at 10km, provided the system setup above has been performed.
